Nom catalan qui peut aussi s'écrire Xicoi, Xicoy. Deux possibilités : soit un diminutif de l'adjectif catalan "xic" (= petit, en occitan "chic"), soit un diminutif de Xico, lui-même hypocoristique de Francisco, Francesc (= François). Au XIXe siècle, en France, les Xicoy, Chicoy étaient surtout présents à Lamanère (66). On trouve la forme similaire Chicoye dans le Sud-Ouest, notamment dans les Landes.
